This development consists of 18 large flats, including three 3 bedroomed units for families. They are built in timber frame on strip foundations with a beam and block ground floor. The homes are highly energy efficient with the external walls using 200mm of recycled newspaper insulation.

Designed by Anne Thorne Architects Partnerships after consultation with local residents, the scheme includes a number of green elements , including a Photovoltaic roof, rainwater harvesting, FSC timber, ECO friendly paints and recycled newspaper insulation.

Sandwood came late to this project after an interview and tender process but adopted and encouraged the sustainability approach. It led to our registration for FSC Chain of Custody, the second UK contractor to do so, which enabled the scheme to be the first new building within the UK to qualify as an FSC mixed sources product. Boatemah Walk was highly commended in the 2006 Sustainable Communities Awards.

"The achievement of 70% FSC Chain of Custody is a credit to the commitment of the contractors."

Matt Prescott, Environmental Projects Officer, London Borough of Lambeth.
