Constructing Excellence Demonstration Project
wiltshire road 3
Sandwood’s project at Angela Carter Close has been chosen as a demonstration project for the use of sustainable timber in construction. The row of nine terraced houses is of timber frame construction with prefabricated Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber cassettes. The walls are either rendered or clad with FSC sweet chestnut slats from Cornwall. The percentage of timber from FSC certified sources is expected to be in excess of 95% of the total. This is the second Sandwood FSC project utilising the company’s FSC Chain of Custody Certification procedures and will enable the buildings to be classified as an FSC mixed sources product. Progress from our first project at Boatemah Walk, also in Brixton, has been the addition of  FSC kitchens from Symphony Kitchens and the certification of our stair manufacturer (Staircraft) due to the demand for FSC certified timber from Sandwood.

Our aim is to produce 100% FSC certified buildings, with currently only windows, roof trusses and landscaping (fencing) to be resolved. The Angela Carter project demonstrates Sandwood’s continued commitment to the use of sustainable construction materials.

UPDATE:

Angela Carter Close has been chosen as a finalist in Constructing Excellence’s “Legacy Award for Sustainability”, which is awarded for the systematic and sustained application of the principles of sustainable construction and development that deliver a sustainable legacy.
